Asthma Emergency Department Visits

  • 9.5% of children (<18 years) and 7.6% of adults (≥18 years) with current asthma visited an emergency room or urgent care center for asthma ≥2 times in the past year. [1]

  • In 2004, the overall rate of asthma emergency department visits in Michigan was 53.5 visits per 10,000. [2]

  • The rate of asthma emergency department visits was almost twice as high in children (age ≤ 14 years) than adults (age ≥ 15 years), 82.5 per 10,000 versus 46.0 per 10,000, respectively. [2]
