ambulatory care can prevent the onset of an illness or condition,
control an acute episode of an illness, or manage a chronic disease
or condition so that hospitalization is unnecessary. Asthma hospitalizations
are preventable because people with asthma can stay out of the
hospital if their disease is managed well.
